Reese Witherspoon answered an open casting call in Nashville, Tennessee, for extras, but ended up landing one of the lead roles.

Revealing mistakes: Reese Witherspoon's flesh-colored top can be seen when Court discovers Dani skinny-dipping as she gets out of the water.
Continuity: When Court starts putting the hinges on the door inside the barn they are originally on the right and then as he finishes they are on the left side of the door.
Continuity: In the last scene of movie, where Dani and Maureen are sitting on her bed. Maureen is braiding Dani's hair, Dani's hair is completely braided all the way down to the end. Then in the very next shot, Dani's hair is all brushed out and sectioned into three parts as though Maureen is just beginning to braid her hair.
