Jet Li was originally considered for the role of Eddie Chan. At the time of pre-production, his agent Jim Choy was gunned down by Triads. The incident caused Jet Li to opt out of staring in a movie about organized crime as he was scared of attracting the wrong attention, so he chose to do _Tai-Chi Master (1993)_ instead.
Kirk Wong and Jackie Chan did not get along during filming. Chan thought Wong's vision was too dark and gritty, and was afraid of tarnishing his light hearted image. Chan would end up taking most of the movie out of Wong's hands with the support of the producers. Kirk Wong was later fired.
