Born in Yakima, Washington, Joseph moved to Anchorage, Alaska at a young age where he was raised by his mother Jane. Looking for a warmer climate he moved to Colorado. While studying finance at Colorado State University, Joseph returned to Alaska every summer to work as a gold miner at the Valdez Creek Gold Mine to earn his tuition.
