The film was shot (in Cinecittà) with both Italian and Spanish actors, all appearing in both versions. All Spanish actors are bubbed in the Italian version and vice-versa. The Italian version was released in Italy in October 1940. The Spanish version of the film, known as "El inspector Vargas" was only released in Spain in July 1947.
