Not just one of the most envelope pushing, brutal, frightening, and graphic horror films to date. Underneath it's also a character driven, socio-political commentary that tackles issues involving the human condition, "cycle of violence", the frequently apparent hypocrisy of fundamentalist organized religion, and race relations in middle America. Violence breeds violence breeds violence...and there is plenty of it here. This film is terror...taken a few steps to far.
