To get his watch back, Michael enlists the help of a new pickpocket, Westmoreland's cell-mate. He uses the watch, along with a tape recorder from his personal belongings bin, to record the sound of the guards making their rounds at night in the yard and find out how frequently they pass beneath the infirmary window.
