The show follows a young single mother (Mary Stuart Masterson) raising two high school-age boys in Los Angeles while juggling multiple minimum-wage jobs. Masterson's character is stiffed on a paycheck and subsequently referred to a local nonprofit advocacy center for help in making her employer pay up.
