Some posters featured André van Duin resting his head on 'Vanessa' 's enormous bosom, implying they are the 'Bosom buddies' of the title. The title actually refers to Van Duin's character and Napoleon. The film failed to recoup the production costs (3 million guilders) by a narrow margin, ending the movie careers of star André van Duin and producer Joop van den Ende. Both of them went back to television.
