Beginning immediately after the end of Half-Life 2, Episode One focuses on Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance as they escape from City 17, which is about to be destroyed along with the Combine Citadel after the explosion of the Citadel's dark fusion reactor that Gordon previously caused in Half-Life 2.
