'Mack Sennett ' intended _Crossroads of New York (1922)_ to be Keystone’s first entry into the making of drama movies. When it was previewed (as Heart Balm), however, the audience howled with laughter, much to Sennetts embarrassment. Not one to let embarrassment stand in the way of making a buck, he altered the titles, did some judicious editing and changed the titles and released it as a comedy. The changes were a bad move as it proved to be a flop.
