A practical joke by Jones on Ben to clean a dirty trailer leads Ben to a piece of the puzzle of is his past which is a tuxedo-clad man, named Scudder, that Ben keeps seeing in his dreams who may be his long-lost father, and whom worked at Carnivale. Meanwhile, Brother Justin and his sister Iris, (who lives with him in the same house in Mintern), seek the assistance from Brother Justin's mentor, Reverend Norman Balthus, try to turn Mr. Chin's, a local brothel, into a house of worship for the local migrants. Brother Justen then does do by persuading the owner after having a psychic vision. At the Carnivale, Sofie continues to tend to her comatose, telepathic mother, Apollonia, after their upsetting run in with Ben, whose powers can help, or harm.
Based on Terry Johnston's play "Cleo, Camping, Emmanuelle and Dick", performed in the Royal National Theatre in London, UK. Many members of the original cast - including the three leads Samantha Spiro, Geoffrey Hutchings and Adam Godley - reprised their original stage roles for this adaptation.
Barbara Windsor:
I think heaven's being left alone with a Steinbeck in the edit suite. You sit in front of your life and you're allowed to re-edit it. Cut the rotten bits, loop the sex, montage the good moments. Live it over and over, a bit better every time. And eventually, make it perfect.
Anachronisms: During the latter part of the film, which is clearly set in the 1970s, Sid's wardrobe assistant says she has been asked to take part in the making of the James Bond film You Only Live Twice (1967), which was made in 1967.
Anachronisms: Kenneth Williams, while reviewing 'Carry On Spying (1964)' in an early scene, suggests that he hasn't been in a state of sexual arousal since "Jim Dale went down the stairs on that hospital trolley". This scene is supposedly contemporaneous with the filming of 'Carry On Cleo (1964)' , but the scene Williams mentions of Jim Dale going down stairs was in 'Carry On Again Doctor (1968)' , filmed in 1969.
Factual errors: According to Kenneth Williams' published diaries, he was not traveling in a car with Barbara Windsor when he found out about Sid James' death - rather, he had returned to his flat after dining out with his mother when the news was broken to him via a phone call.
Factual errors: Kenneth Williams is shown to write in his diary, and is clearly holding his pen in his right hand. Williams was left-handed, as he notes himself in his autobiography.
Factual errors: In the excerpt from _Carry On Henry (1971)_ , Bernard Bresslaw appears as Cardinal Wolsey, a part played in the film by Terry Scott.
Anachronisms: Many of the vehicles (trucks, etc) shown in scenes set in the 1960s are from the 1980s
