This production of "Tartuffe" was first staged at the Circle in the Square Theatre in New York in 1977, with most of the same cast; however, the roles of Tartuffe and Marianne were played respectively in the 1977 stage production by John Wood and Swoosie Kurtz, and that of Mme.
