Cyd Charisse's singing was dubbed by Carol Richards, Michael Kidd's by Jud Conlon. Co-director Gene Kelly wanted to use the same stars as he did in On the Town (1949): Frank Sinatra, 'Jules Munshin (I)' and himself. Betty Comden and Adolph Green originally conceived this musical as a sequel to their hit "On the Town". The concept was changed somewhat because Frank Sinatra was unavailable to reprise his role.
