Frylock says he has invented an extraordinary toilet which uses little or no water. He gives the (as yet untested) toilet to Carl, and leaves it in Carl's front yard. Skeptical about the toilet, Carl at first refuses to use it. Frylock tells Carl that the toilet has an infrared privacy screen. The character of Eddie Ryan is loosely based on real-life NYC cop Eddie Egan, who was the detective who busted "The French Connection." He was fictionalized as Popeye Dole and played by Gene Hackman in the movie based on Robin Moore's book detailing his most famous case. "373" was Eddie Egan's badge number as a detective with the New York City police. Luis Avalos' film debut.
