Born Victor John Mature (to a German-speaking Tyrolean father, Marcellus George Mature, a cutler, and a Swiss-American mother, Clara Mature) in Louisville, Kentucky, Victor Mature worked as a teenager with his father as a salesman for butcher supplies.
