Timothy Greenfield-Sanders was born in Miami Beach, Florida. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University in Art History and a Master's Degree in film from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. He lives in New York City in a converted rectory with his wife Karin, a lawyer specializing in the arts.
