Peter Zhmutski was born in the former USSR, in the present country of Kazakstan. Zhmutski has been involved with theatre and national television shows since he was little. His first significant film experience was in 1996, when he received a speaking role in the internationally known film Fara (1999), directed by one of the Kazakstan's greatest directors Abai Karpykov.
