Nicola Black was born on the 3rd May 1965. She attended Hutchison's School and the University of Glasgow. Nicola worked as a trainee editor on Caravaggio (1986) before going on to work as a producer and director. In 1995, she set up Blackwatch Productions Limited. Nicola's debut as producer and director was White Jazz (1995) a dram-documentary film which followed crime writer James Ellroy going in search of his mother's murder.
