Mini Biography
Born in The Hague, The Netherlands. Son of a prison guard. Attended several film schools in Sittard (The Netherlands), Brussels (Belgium) and the Dutch Film And Television Academy (The Netherlands). Graduated with the short movie Orde Der Dingen, De (1996). Koolhoven has been known to date Dutch writer/director 'Tallulah Schwab' since 1993. The first film he made after graduating from the Dutch Film Academy was _Duister Licht (1997)_ , starring a young Dutch actor/writer/director Marc van Uchelen , who was in his class at the Academy, and is a close personal friend. Producer Emjay Rechsteiner asked Koolhoven to direct the Television Feature Suzy Q (1999) (TV) , a script by Frouke Fokkema. This film was awarded both in Holland and abroad. His cinema debut is _AmnesiA (2001)_ . During the writing of this feature (for which he had also written the script), he was asked by Dutch production company Get Reel Productions to direct Tim Krabbé's screen adaptation of his novel De Grot (The Cave), which resulted in the feature film Grot, De (2001), which was selected opening film for the Nederlands Film Festival 2001. Actor Fedja van Huêt stars in both _AmnesiA (2001)_ and _De Grot (2001)_ . Actress Carice van Houten starred in both _Suzy Q (1999)_ and _AmnesiA (2001)_ .
