Liviu Rebreanu, was the first born of the 13 children of a small village teacher. After usual school and gymnasium education in North Transylvania, (then part of Austro- Hungarian Imperium), learns in a military school and then between 1903 and 1908 in the Military Academy in Budapest, Hungary.
