Joachim Roenning grew up in a small town south of Oslo, Norway, called Sandefjord. Together with his childhood friend, Espen Sandberg, they spent their free time making short films and music videos with Joachim's dad's camcorder. In 1992 they both attended Stockholm Film School in Sweden, graduating in 1994. Later that year, they served their mandatory year in the military, making propaganda films.
