Biography:Prolific and versatile Canadian film composer since the early 1980s who began his career as the music director for "Saturday Night Live" (NBC, 1975-80). Under the guidance of Shore and his childhood summer camp buddy, executive producer Lorne Michaels, "SNL" made a point of bringing a rock 'n' roll sensibility to mainstream TV. As a memorable musical gag, Shore appeared on the show several times as part of "Howard Shore and his All Nurse Band."
Shore entered features collaborating with rising horror auteur and fellow Canadian David Cronenberg. He provided a crisp, synthetic score for "The Brood" (1979), and went on to work his ominous magic on nearly every Cronenberg film for the next 15 years, including "Videodrome" (1982), "The Fly" (1986), and "Naked Lunch" (1991). He has also worked with director Mike Nichols on "Gilda Live" (1980), the Gilda Radner concert film, "Silkwood" (1983), and "Postcards From the Edge" (1990). Shore continues to display a flair for comic material with light-hearted scores for the likes of "Big" (1988) and "Mrs. Doubtfire" (1993), while keeping his dramatic skills sharp with effective music for Jonathan Demme's "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991) and "Philadelphia" (1993) and David Fincher's "Seven" (1995). Over the course of his busy career, Shore has amassed feature credits as a conductor, orchestrator, music producer, music coordinator, and music supervisor.
