Greg MacGillivray began his film career by shooting 8mm black-and-white movies on the campus of Newport Harbor High School. That led to self-employment as the creator of some of the best surfing films of the 60s, and the establishment of MacGillivray-Freeman Films. He graduated in 1963, a classmate of actor Paul Lemat.
