April Telek was born and raised on the North Shore of Vancouver, British Columbia. She began working as a model locally at ten years of age, before traveling to Tokyo, Japan at the age of 13. During her four years in Japan, she pursued her modeling career, winning the Shiseido Cosmetics contract for Asia from 1989-1990.
