Aarti was born in New Jersey. Suniel Shetty invited her to dance with him on stage in Philadelphia when she was barely 14. The big B, who was also present at the show, encouraged her father to take her to Bollywood. Her Hindi debut, Pagalpaan, opposite Karan Nath wasn't well received.
